before
The landmark observatory's old website was lost in space and time. Griffith Observatory was more than ready to revamp their website after over twenty (yes, 20!) years of maintaining their previous collection of web pages. Our team completely rethought an engaging experience up-to-date with industry standards, and conducted research to reorganize the content to be easily navigable for visitors.
NIGHT AND DAY, YOU ARE THE ONE
We worked with the Griffith Observatory to design an experience that felt as advanced and immersive it does to visit the observatory. We prioritized visual storytelling through the use of original photography and illustration, and migrated twenty years of content into a new management system for an easier and more organized authoring experience. In order to fully showcase this unique landmark we included a special effect, shifting the colors and imagery of the site between day and night based upon when you access the site.
AN EYE ON THE DETAILS
Our team’s digital illustrations mimicked the line-drawing style found in Griffith’s astronomical maps, based on contours and cartography etchings.
Ready to Explore
We created interactive maps for Griffith Observatory that help visitors navigate the iconic hilltop destination with ease. The solution features custom SVG floor plans seamlessly integrated into a Google Maps interface, combining the familiarity of map navigation with detailed indoor layouts. Through the content management system, Observatory staff can independently update the maps as exhibits and spaces evolve, ensuring visitors always have current information at their fingertips.
